Q. Classify "marginality" and then use it to explain differences between Reform Jewish communities and those practices more Orthodox.

1. Marginality is as a subordinate group feels like they have been pushed out of the center of social/political life and they exist only in the powerless margins of a culture. Reform Jewish communities feel this is how Conservative congregations view them.

2. Marginality is feeling like you have one foot planted in traditional culture and your 2nd foot planted in American cultural. Reform Jews seem to fit this description since they do not segregate women and men at services, they usually do not follow kashrut law, and they allow for conversion and do not prohibit intermarriage.

3. Marginality is when the center of one's faith is criticized for becoming too American. Reform Jews are criticizing Orthodox Jews for being not being "marginal" enough
