Unconfined compression tests were performed on soil samples from a boring at an offshore site in the Gulf of Mexico. On a sample recovered from 80 ft below the mudline, an unconfined compressive strength (qu) of 1550 psf was measured. The clay is normally consolidated with a submerged unit weight of 40 pcf. Find the c/p (i.e., su/σ'v) ratio. Calculate the undrained shear strength at a depth of 120 ft below the mudline.
