In this art history course, we have seen a shift away from representing subject matter as an exact copy or imitation of the real world (objective representation) to how it appears to the artist (subjective representation). These shifts have been influenced by social events, changes in thinking, science, and so forth. Research and craft and essay that examines this shift from Neo-Classicism to Impressionism to Post-Impressionism. When creating your answer, refer to changes in art making goals and practices, and indicate your proof by refering to a specific painting for each that we studied in class.

Part of the definition of Modern art is the belief that art is progressing or evolving. We can look at one aspect of this evolution by examining how artists represent their subject matter and consider their rationale for doing so. Craft an essay that examines the following three things: • one point linear perspective and naturalism (Neo-Classicism) • painting light reflected from objects (Impressionism) • Cézanne and binocular vision (Post Impressionism)

Describe, discuss, and analyze each of the above taking into consideration the artist's art making goals and practices. Refer to a specific painting we saw in class that supports your ideas.
