Michael who was in a private dispute with his neighbour, Christopher, called upon an acquaintance of his, Alex, who happened to be a lawyer. In the course of a conversation about world affairs and the weather, Michael casually mentioned his dispute and wondered whether a legal action against Christopher for trespass and defamation would be a feasible course of action. Alex advised Michael against it. Subsequently, Michael received a Tax Invoice (Bill) for $3,500 from Alex "for professional services rendered". Has Alex any contractual grounds for making this claim and billing Michael?

(A) No, as Michael just mentioned it casually without any intention to have entered into a legally binding and enforceable contract.

(B) Yes, as Alex is a lawyer and is entitled to send bills for any information he provides.

(C) Yes, because it was assumed that a legal intention would arise out of the discussion which concerned a legal dispute.

(D) Yes, because there was a formal agreement between Michael and Alex as soon as the conversation about the legal dispute arose.
