Objective:
The purpose of this assignment is to encourage and allow each student to analyze the financial, market and organization dynamics of a company. Some case studiesareintendedtoevaluate what went wrong with the target firm. Others are assigned to let students learn how the firm managed to succeed, such as properly balancing business opportunities against financial, regulatory or human resource constraints.In all cases, the assignments are intended to let students learn fromexamples and to demonstrate their abilities to assess and articulate the core businessissues of success and failure in a strategic management context.
Exercise:
Each studentreads, researches and analyzes cases using the principles and concepts studied in this course, together withtheir accumulated business management skill sets acquiredto date in prior courses. Those skill sets include management, marketing, operations, accounting, finance, human resources, and systems. Tools to be used and demonstrated as partof the case analysis include business writing, critical thinking, spreadsheetcalculations, table buildingand charting, and Powerpoint slides and organizational charts. I look for students to use at least the following tools:
