Sherly: One of their key role is that they provide care regardless of race, political affiliation, religion ,gender, ethnicity etc. and the service they provide is solely for medical needs. 7. Kwan:Everyone has had an experience dealing with some type of cold or flu. People get it no matter how careful they are. Epidemiologists have a very important role in public health in helping to determine types of diseases by examining the target population and location. Normal people like us cannot just assume that we know what kind of disease someone has by the symptoms. History has shown that new diseases can develop and affect different types of people. I was out sick last Thursday because of a strange headache and I was very dizzy. I went to urgent care the same day and found out I had a sinus infection and sore throat. I'm glad that I went to go see a medical professional because I would have just taken an Excedrin and NyQuil.Based on Kwan's comment: What reactions do you have to the ideas they presented? Include examples from the course readings or your own experience to support your perspective, and raise questions to continue the dialogue. How did his post influence your thinking? 8. Julio: Reading about epidemiology helps understands health care professionals the root cause of why diseases occur or why outbreaks happen in the community. You have provided a clear example of one of the most common diseases in communities, the flu. Before, it was not mandated for everyone to get a flu shot every year because different people did not have health care coverage. However, in schools, where risks are higher of contracting diseases due to different populations in the facility, they are required to have vaccinations in order to be able to attend school and to show the kids are safe from contracting diseases. In addition, community health centers actually provide vaccinations for kids attending school under the age of 18 for free to protect the safety of the children. Now with the new health care reform, the implementation of preventative services is more frequent and recommended, which can help public health in the long term by having all adults and everyone that has health insurance get vaccinations such as the flu shot.Based on Julio's comment: What reactions do you have to the ideas they presented? Include examples from the course readings or your own experience to support your perspective, and raise questions to continue the dialogue. How did his post influence your thinking? How can you use the information presented in Julio's post?
