Part 2: Security Read the following scenario and explain how you will deal with this situation: A maximum-security inmate security-housing unit has returned from court, where he just received a life sentence for a murder that he committed almost five years ago. He acts as he normally does. He appears jovial and makes idle conversation with you as you walk him back to his cell. He is angry, however, but does not display his anger to you. Before returning to his cell, he asks to use the telephone but needs to enter his cell to get a phone number first. He says that he needs to call his family to let them know what happened in court today. He is also interested in learning whether his sister has had her baby. You agree to his requests, unlocking his cell and making the telephone available to him. You advise him, however, that he only has 10 minutes to complete his tasks. CJ2640: Week 1 The Foundation Of Jails Essay 1.1 Emergency Procedures and Security 2 You return to the control room as the inmate enters his cell. You can hear over the intercom that the inmate is humming and singing. As his 10 minutes are about to expire, the inmate emerges from his cell and defiantly yells out to you, "I ain't locking down. I ain't got nothing to lose. Come and get me." In addition to his defiant attitude, the inmate has smeared his own feces on his body, which makes him harder to physically control (slippery), repugnant to the staff, and potentially disease spreading. You call for assistance. Three other deputies respond. The other inmates in the housing unit see the reinforcements arrive and become agitated. They believe that the deputies will enter the cell area and beat the defiant inmate. Locked in their cells, they start banging on their cell doors and yelling words of support to their defiant comrade.
