Difference in Chinese and Western Parental mind-sets

Difference in Chinese and Western Parental mind-sets

There are basically three differences between the parental mind-sets of Chinese and Western mothers. Chinese mother raises the stereotyping successful kids and they direct their children very carefully. On the other hand, western parents are conscious about the self-esteem of their children. Firstly, western parents afraid that what their children would feel, if they fail at something. They also ensure the health of their children by conducting the medical test. On the other hand, Chinese mother behaves totally different and they direct their children with will power by assuming strength not fragility.

Secondly, after sometime, Chinese parents do not take the responsibility of their children. Children have to own their parents and take all the responsibilities of their parents. It is because the parents have sacrificed everything and done so much for their children. Therefore, Chinese children have to spend their lives by repaying to their parents in terms of obeying and making them proud. On the other hand, Western children do not have the responsibility to own their parents (Chua, 2011). Parents are responsible for the well-being of their children and they have to duty for their own kids.

Thirdly, Chinese parents believe that they have knowledge about what are the desires and wants of their children. They do not consider the children own desires and preferences. Parents fulfill their all needs and apply strict rules and regulations on them.

On the flip side, Western children have the right to fulfill their own needs and wants. Parents ask their children what they like to have and provide them the freedom to take decisions by their own. They believe that children will be happy when they are able to fulfill all the needs and desires. Thus mind-sets of parents in China and Western countries are totally different from each other, which are discussed in the article.

Use of Cultures in Chinese and Western mind-sets and Consent of the Ideas Discussed in Article

Culture of both countries plays an important role in changing the mind-sets of their parents. Culture of China is very complicated due to which, parents are more focused towards good performance of children. In the Chinese culture, some characteristics are included such as valuing family, hierarchal structure of social life, self-restraint and being able to work hard. All these characteristics reflect that Chinese parents are strict and direct with their children. Children are always taught to never give back answers to their parents due to family oriented culture of China. They also have to give respect to their elder ones and head of the family. This type of Chinese culture has also contributed in developing the mind-sets of their parents accordingly, which is discussed in the articles.

On the flip side of coin, western culture also has major contribution in developing the mind-sets of their parents. In the Western culture, children have freedom to participate in any activities and fulfill their own needs and wants. Children in Western culture respect their parents and focused towards more curricular activities, according to western culture. Dance, music, visual art and architecture are the inbuilt characteristics in Western culture. Therefore, parents allow their children to participate in other activities apart from studies.

Culture of countries is useful in developing the mindsets of the people and parents and they behave according to the culture. The article of Amy Chua is useful in analyzing the culture of Chinese and Western parents. It is agreed that parents in China are strict with their children and do not allow them to take decisions themselves. Due to this reason, Chinese children are more obeyed and well mannered in comparison to Western children. At the same time, Western culture included diversity among people. With the help of this, children are allowed to analyze the external market environment.  It is also agreed that providing opportunities to the children is useful in sustaining in other countries as well.
