University of New South Wales (UNSW) is ranked among the top 50 universities in the world, well known for the quality of its graduates and its commitment to creative approaches to education and research. The University is a founding member of the renowned Group of Eight research intensive universities in the Australian continent, and a member of the Universities 21 international consortium.
Established in the year 1949 with a scientific and technological focus, UNSW has expanded rapidly and now has over 50,000 students, including around 14,500 international students from around 120 countries. The University has developed an extensive network of the alumni chapters throughout Asia.
The main campus of UNSV is located on the 38 hectare site at Kensington, seven kilometers from the main of Sydney. Other campuses of it are the UNSW Canberra, College of Fine Arts (Paddington), and sub campuses at Randwick and Coogee, as well as research stations in NSW.
UNSW has a wide disciplinary base, providing over 600 undergraduate and around 300 postgraduate programs across the Faculties of Built Environment; Arts and Social Sciences; Engineering; Law; Science; Medicine; College of Fine Arts; and Australian Defence Force Academy and the Australian School of Business.
UNSW’s world-class research targets on areas critical to the future – from climate change and renewable energies to life-saving medical treatments. The award winning researchers of University are represented in national and international honours prizes, and fellowships.
Particular areas of strength include financial markets, quantum computing, biomedical research, molecular engineering, photovoltaics, robotics, and design and interactive cinema. UNSW has strong collaborative associations with industry and business, performing at the top nationally in the ARC Industry Linkage Grants. The University’s’ expertise is also frequently sought after by business and government for the broad range of consultancy and training services.
UNSW is a member of over 10 Cooperative Research Centres and is affiliated with a number of prestigious medical research institutes, which includes the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, Neuroscience Research Australia and the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute.
